The United States Mint has six departments across six nationwide facilities that contribute to its overall mission: “To serve the American people by manufacturing and distributing circulating, precious metal and collectible coins and national medals, and providing security over assets entrusted to us.”
The main responsibilities of each department, as well as some of its key positions, are listed below.
Financial Department
Responsible for coordinating the development of the Mint’s budget and strategic plan while overseeing the procurement of goods and services.

Information Technology Department
Responsible for overseeing the Mint’s technological infrastructure. This department is responsible for the management of our information assets and technology projects; information security; system development and maintenance; and product assurance.

Manufacturing Department
Responsible for manufacturing and distributing circulating coins, precious metal and collectible coins, and national medals.

Protection Department
The Mint Police are responsible for protecting life and property; preventing, detecting, and investigating criminal acts; collecting and preserving evidence; and enforcing federal and local laws.
