Greg Weinman was appointed United States Mint Deputy Chief Counsel in 2024. Prior to his appointment, Greg served for more than 25 years as Senior Legal Counsel at the Mint, where among his many responsibilities he served as the Bureau’s Designated Ethics Official and Counsel to the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee.
Greg developed the charter for the Mint’s long-running Artistic Infusion Program. He also served as project counsel on all the Mint’s circulating collectible coin programs over the past 20 years, including the America the Beautiful Quarters® Program, the American Women Quarters™ Program, the Westward Journey Nickel Series, and the Native American $1 Coin Program. Between 1999 and 2000, he was the program manager responsible for the development and launch of the Golden Dollar.
In 2008, Greg was awarded the Treasury Department’s Outstanding Litigator award, in part due to his management of the successful 1933 Double Eagle litigation.
Before coming on board with the Mint in 1997, Greg served six years as a Senior Attorney with the Internal Revenue Service specializing in public contract and licensing issues. He regularly litigated contract protests, claims, and appeals before the General Services Administration Board of Contract Appeals and the Federal Courts.
Before coming to Washington, Greg clerked with the Cincinnati law firm of Wood & Lamping, and the Toledo, Ohio law firm of Gallon, Kalniz & Iorio. Greg also served as a prosecutor for the City of Toledo Municipal Court.
Greg is a native of Ohio where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Education degree from the University of Cincinnati in 1988. He briefly taught high school social studies before earning his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Toledo in 1991. Greg is licensed to practice law in the District of Columbia and the State of Ohio.
