In 2018, the U.S. Mint released the Breast Cancer Awareness Silver Dollar Coin. The coin is part of the Breast Cancer Awareness Commemorative Coin Program, which recogizes the many Americans who are impacted by the disease and the effort to prevent it through research. The program includes a gold, silver, and clad coin. A design competition selected the common obverse and reverse designs emblematic of the fight against breast cancer.

The price of each silver dollar includes a surcharge of $10, which the law authorizes to be paid to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation for the purpose of furthering breast cancer research funded by the Foundation.Commemorative Coin Surcharges
Commemorative coin programs are created by acts of Congress to honor a person, place, or event. Surcharges from the sales of these coins help fund a variety of organizations and projects that benefit the public. Commemorative coins are only available from the United States Mint for a limited time, as specified by public law.

The younger woman, with a scarf on her head, holds one hand over her chest and the other raised in a fist as if she is ready to fight. A butterfly flies above the two women.
