Dear Friend:
It is with a sense of privilege I reply to your recommendation that a coin of the United States be struck in honor of our late President, John Fitzgerald Kennedy.
The Mint is receiving hundreds of suggestions, such as you so warmly offer, urging that we issue an appropriate medal or coin. At this moment, however, no decision has been made. When something is agreed upon, it will receive wide attention by the press, so you will be able to learn about it through your local newspapers. If a new design is placed on a coin, you will be able to get it from your local bank.
I do want you to know I appreciate the fine spirit which prompted you to write.
Sincerely,
Eva Adams
Director of the Mint
