The first strike of the Eisenhower silver dollar coins takes place at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 31, 1971, at the United States Assay Office, 155 Hermann Street, San Francisco, California.
The Treasury Department’s Assistant Secretary for Enforcement and Operations, Eugene T. Rossides, and the Director of the Mint, Mary T. Brooks, will launch the first strike of the 150 million silver dollar coins authorized for minting.
Reporters and photographers are welcome to attend the start of production of the first Arrangements will also be made for any of the news media wishing to tour the San Francisco Assay Office and see the manufacturing processes for production of proof and uncirculated coins.
